It combines step-pattern generators with patchable logic, math, and random modules, allowing you to build networks that generate and transform notes, rhythms, and controller data in real time. You can chain and cross-route multiple 16-step sequences, introduce probability and rule-based behaviors, and capture the results as standard MIDI for use with hardware or software instruments or for export to a DAW. BankStep focuses solely on MIDI (no audio engine), making it lightweight and responsive for generative composition, interactive performance, and education in algorithmic techniques. It stands as a compact predecessor to later, more expansive tools in the same lineage.
